PR 173 – rhodamine B

Discovered in 1887, it is still used as a staining fluorescent dye in biological science. Rhodamine B is a toxic fluorescent dye but prepared as a lake is harmless. Rhodamine B can be mixed with quinacridone magenta (PR122) to make the bright pink watercolor known as Opera Rose.
