PY 83 – Diarylide Yellow HR is a synthetic organic pigment belonging to the diarylide family, known for its bright, warm yellow hue, excellent lightfastness, and high chromatic purity. It is widely used in both artistic and industrial applications, including paints, inks, plastics, and coatings, where durable, vivid yellow coloration is required.

Chemically, PY 83 is based on a diarylide structure, formed by coupling two aromatic amines via an azo (-N=N-) linkage. This molecular configuration stabilizes the chromophore, providing excellent resistance to light, heat, and chemical degradation. Its stability ensures compatibility with a variety of binders and other pigments, maintaining color integrity over long periods in complex formulations.

In practical applications, Diarylide Yellow HR exhibits high tinting strength and semi-opaque to opaque behavior depending on particle size and formulation. Its warm yellow hue mixes cleanly with other yellows, oranges, and reds to produce a wide palette of warm tones, while its transparency allows for glazing and layering in oil, acrylic, and watercolor media.
