PY 184 – Bismuth Vanadate Yellow is an inorganic pigment composed of bismuth vanadate (BiVO₄), known for its bright, slightly greenish yellow hue, excellent lightfastness, and chemical stability. It is a modern high-performance yellow pigment widely used in industrial coatings, plastics, inks, and artistic media, valued for its vibrant color, opacity, and long-term durability.

Chemically, bismuth vanadate forms a crystalline lattice in which bismuth and vanadium ions contribute to the pigment’s chromophore. This structure provides exceptional resistance to light, heat, and chemical agents, making PY 184 highly stable under both indoor and outdoor conditions. Its inorganic nature ensures compatibility with a wide range of binders and other pigments without risk of chemical degradation.

In practical applications, PY 184 exhibits strong opacity and high tinting strength. Its bright, slightly greenish yellow allows for the creation of vivid, warm hues and clean color mixtures with other yellows, oranges, and earth tones. Its high stability makes it ideal for industrial coatings, automotive finishes, and architectural paints, as well as for professional artists’ materials where permanence and chromatic brilliance are required.

From a conservation perspective, PY 184 is chemically inert and lightfast, maintaining both hue and chromatic purity over extended periods. Its robustness ensures minimal color change or degradation, even in complex pigment mixtures.
