During the conservation of the later painting the numerous paint losses indicated to the skilled conservators that another painting was well preserved behind it and it was worth to separate them (strappo). An high quality Annunciation in the style of the XVII century was revealed. Again, some paint losses showed that the just discovered painting was actually heavily modified itself.
CHSOS contributed the diagnostics examination to understand the actual composition and the extent of the previous version.
Special thanks to the community of Nunziata di Mascali which promoted the study, to Rotary Giarre which funded the conservation and the diagnostics campaign, to Dr Buda and Cappa for supporting CHSOS and to Calvagna Conservation Laboratory to let us do the examination in their studio.
