Meet me in Estonia

Rode Imaging Event

I will be in Tallinn –  May 14th -18th  – as an invited speaker at the Rode Imaging Event and as a presenter of  the CHSOS  mission at the  eCult Dialogue Day.

The Rode Imaging Event is a large-scale project initiated by the Art Museum of Estonia and it is focused on finalizing the conservation of the retable of St Nicholas’ Church in Tallinn. This is an outstanding and one of the best conserved late medieval Northern German altarpieces in Europe. I’m looking forward to this event to meet up with other specialists in 3D data acquisition, multispectral imaging and photographic methods.

This is the timeframe:

Wed, May 14 : eCult Dialogue Day

Thurs, May 15: Rode Imaging Seminar

Fri, May 16: Rode Imaging Workshop

Sat, Sun, May 17, 18: Rode Imaging Hackathon

This is just not a meeting, it is a HACKATHON! I admit I had never seen that word before I talked with Hembo Pagi, one of the organizers. Wikipedia explained me that “A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects. Occasionally, there is a hardware component as well…”

Of course, the concept excited me.  Hembo explained me that they want to unify data sources into one documentation format specifically using the modern imaging technologies.  As my contribution, I’ll give a talk on “Developing and Disseminating low-cost Imaging technologies” and I’ll love to tinker a bit with the other experts.

There will be a seminar, a workshop and, of course, the hackathon. They would provide hands-on experience on the cultural heritage data. Participants would see how to create and manage 2D and 3D art documentation and how to digitally visualize them. Furthermore, participation to the 4 days events, seminar, workshop and hackathon, is totally FREE!

The eCult Dialogue Day aims to present existing technology solutions to museums and cultural heritage owners and it is also FREE.

Definitely, this is a CHSOS recommended event! An intensive week of Cultural Heritage Science and Information Technology in beautiful Tallinn! There is still time to register.

Here some videos. The research team has already done a number of examinations, some examples:
