Training in Oman – National Library, Feb 2019

Just delivered a 3-days Training on February 19-21, 2019 in Oman, at the Headquarters of the National Library and Archives of Oman, in Muscat. Within the framework of the agreement signed between Qatar National Library and UNESCO, “Supporting Documentary Heritage Preservation in the Arab Region”.

Also in cooperation with the Oman Archive Foundation, the IFLA/PAC Regional Center for Arab Countries and the Middle East at Qatar National Library has sponsored this CHSOS training course: Practical Methods for the Scientific Examination of Library Objects.

The course saw the participation of professionals from Kuwait, Iran, Qatar, and Oman .

FIRST and SECOND DAY:
Subject: Technical Photography

Technical photography represents a collection of images taken with a modified digital camera sensitive to the spectral range (about 360 – 1000 nm). Different lighting sources and filters are used to acquire a selection of technical images, with each one providing different information about the object under examination.

THIRD DAY:
Subject: Reflectance spectroscopy

Reflectance spectroscopy (RS) is a powerful portable technique for
the identification of pigments. An RS spectrum shows the ratio between the intensity of the reflected light and the incident light for each wavelength. The RS spectra can provide information useful for pigment identification.

This was the third Training program we delivered for the IFLA/PAC Regional Center for Arab Countries and the Middle East.  The first one was hosted by Qatar National Library in March 2018.  Click HERE The second in Morocco, Dec 2018, CLICK HERE
